June 26, 2006 - Economic Development

Invited Speaker for the General Meeting, Mr. Simon Castillo, Branch Manager of the U.S. Small Business Administration, discussed concerns that  loans are not being awarded to Black business owners and Black business owners not applying for loans.

August 28, 2006 - Economic Development

Speaker at the General Meeting, Associate Attorney with Porter, Rogers, Dahlman and Gordon Law Firm, spoke on Employment Issues in the workplace.

September 9, 2006 - "Moonlight Mixer" Fundraiser

Our first annual Membership Drive Fundraiser - a "Moonlight Mixer" on the Captain Clark Flagship.  Tickets sold for $20 per person.  Membership increased by 40%.  New members were given with a Corpus Christi Black Chamber T-Shirt and were eligible for a drawing to win a free "Fly Anywhere Round Trip Airline Ticket" on Southwest Airlines.  A Disc Jockey, Food and Spirits enhanced the night's activity.

In the pursuit for more exposure for the Corpus Christi Black Chamber, the Board of Directors agreed to sign a 3-year contract with the Corpus Christi International Airport to advertise at the airport as a means to keep visitors and locals informed and aware of the CC Black Chamber's activities and programs.  When traveling, stop by the Brochure Rack in the Baggage Claim area and check us out.

November 30, 2006 - Business and Young Entrepreneur Awards Banquet

This was the highlight of the year.  The annual banquet is the major source of our Scholarship Foundation.  Planning began in September thru the day of the event in order to make the day successful.  Our speaker, Mr. Charles Patton, President & CEO of AEP Texas, who is also a member of the Corpus Christi Black Chamber of Commerce.  Plans were made for over 300 guests.  There were very few unoccupied but paid-for seats.  Awards were presented to honorees in 3 categories:  Business Leader, Business Owner, and Young Entrepreneur.  Honorees were:  Dr. Ester Pollard, Mrs. Beverly Winters and Mr. Quincy D. Mosley, respectively.  Nominees were submitted based on guidelines and criteria established by the Board of Directors.  AEP Texas was our Corporate Sponsor Partner.  Many sponsors and business partners supported the banquet with various donations.  Some of the major sponsors included:  Southwest Airlines, Port of Corpus Christi, and Porter, Rogers, Dahlman and Gordon (all of whom are members of the CC Black Chamber).  There were guests in attendance from: Houston, Victoria and Dallas, Texas.  Some of our out-of-town guests joined the Corpus Christi Black Chamber of Commerce.
